Energy. It is a popular subject these days. We often talk about it and many people share their well-meant advise on the web, but what is energy actually? Where does it reside, where does it come from and most importantly; how can you get more of this good stuff?

My synonym for energy is bubbles
When I’m in good energy, I feel like champagne. Except that I can’t handle alcohol at all, so let’s say sparkling water 😉 Then, I sparkle and I bubble, I’m super focused, I’m creative and very productive, I’ve got the best ideas and I’m taking the right decisions. Everything runs smoothly and I’m in flow. I love it!

Energy means so much more than just being able to walk up the stairs without panting.

  • Energy makes you recover well and quickly from both physical and emotional injuries.
  • Energy enables you to persevere, to forgive, and to love yourself.
  • Energy allows you to let go at the right time and in the right amount.
  • And so much more…

Essentially, energy is the life force that enables everything you do.

Everything is energy
Energy is everywhere. Everything consists of energy and so do you. Your body consists of energy that flows through countless pathways. Compare it with our electricity network. You can’t see the electricity with the naked eye, but you know it flows to all your power outlets through the cables hidden in the walls. Very handy. Similar processes take place in your body to supply all your tissues and fluids with energy.

If you have enough energy in your body and it all flows well then you can say: ‘I have good energy’. Then you’re healthy and balanced, both physically and non-physically. Then you feel good and have the power to do what you want to do. 

Energy out of balance
When your energy is out of balance, you could end up with all kinds of problems. It often starts subtly: some fatigue, a bit of pain here and there. But if you don’t recover properly from this, the symptoms get worse and before you know it, you are dealing with a chronic problem.

Energy in balance
When your energy is in balance, you’ll feel great. You’ll feel alive. You’ll wake up in the morning feeling fresh and recharged and excited to start your day. You will be balanced, both physically and emotionally. And of course you can still have a bad day, catch a cold or have another problem with your health, but you will quickly recover.

The good news is that everyone – yes, including you – can influence their own energy balance. I’m not saying that you can control everything, but you certainly play a big part in this and I would like to help you with that.

For starters, I have an energy exercise for you. Simple, but extremely effective. It teaches you to be aware of your energy because that is the first step. Once you are aware of your energy then you can choose to use it differently. But let’s start from the beginning: with feeling your energy.

Exercise: feeling your energy
Sit down for a moment and close your eyes. Breathe in and out calmly. Do this three times and feel how your body relaxes. Now think of a moment in the past. A moment in time when you felt great. Relive that feeling for a few seconds and give this feeling a rating of nine. Then turn your attention back to the present moment and feel how you feel right now. What rating would you give your energy right now?

I advise you to do this simple exercise as often as you can, preferably every hour. It takes almost no time and you can do it anywhere. Once you have done the exercise a few times, you can also do it while standing and with your eyes open. Very handy when, for example, you are standing in line at the supermarket or when you are refuelling your car.

Your energy is your most important asset and having good energy means so much more than having good stamina. The first step in mastering your energy is to be aware of your energy and that’s what this easy exercise does for you.
